If you're shopping for electricity in Texas, every plan comes with an Electricity Facts Label — a standardized, required disclosure that makes comparing plans genuinely apples-to-apples, once you know what to look for.
## Why the EFL Exists
Advertised electricity rates can be misleading if plans are priced differently depending on usage. The EFL was created specifically so every provider has to disclose pricing at the same standardized usage levels, making real comparison possible.
## What's on It
**Average price per kWh at three usage tiers** — typically 500, 1,000, and 2,000 kWh per month. This is the most important section: a plan can look cheap at one tier and expensive at another, so always check the tier closest to your actual usage.
**Contract term** — how long the rate is locked in, if it's a fixed-rate plan.
**Rate type** — fixed, variable, or indexed to a market rate.
**Renewable content** — the percentage of the plan's electricity backed by renewable sources.
**Fees** — any early termination fee, minimum usage fee, or other charges beyond the base rate.
**Cancellation and other terms** — the specifics of switching away from this plan later.
